5A1A QSL CARDS UPDATE. Bart, K4CEF, supplied OPDXB with the latest on Toly's 5A QSL situation direct from W4BRE. As of July 11, 1996, everything is right-on-schedule for the QSLing of the July, 1995, 5A1A operation. Toly, naturally, has all the original copies of the paper logs, and after a hard-drive crash after Dayton, he has gotten all the QSOs re-entered. A copy of the original paper logs and the computer disks have been sealed with the Ukrainian Customs Seal and were sent to N4AA, EXPRESS MAIL early morning July 11 for a 4 to 6 day delivery. Toly has all your cards sent long ago to the original OM and LZ QSL Managers and has started answering these cards as of 7/11/96. ADDED NOTE: All OPDX InterNet Subscribers will receive the complete press release as an added bulletin.

Contacts for DX stations will be made mainly on 17/20/40 meters (SSB/CW) from 0900 to 2200z, because of propagation conditions.

AFRICAN DXPEDITION (D6/FH, Comoros and Mayotte). Look for Maike/DL4XS, Dieter/DL3KDV and Mirko/DL6ET to be active from Comoros, August 22nd to September 3rd. After their time there, they will travel to Mayotte to be on the air until September 11th. Their callsigns will be issued upon their arrival at Comoros and at Mayotte they will be active as FH/homecall. The group plans to be active (with good antennas) on all HF Bands on CW, SSB and RTTY, with a major emphasis on the lowbanders, including some serious operations on 80 and 160 meters. QSL to DL4XS via the bureau or direct. Please note that the CallBook entry is no longer valid. New Adress is Maike Stargardt, Friedrichsthal 21, 51688 Wipperfuerth, Germany.

DEVOTED BULLETINS FOR CHASING ISLANDS......

DX WEB SITES.....

FO, CLIPPERTON ISLAND (Help wanted!). Interesting message was entered on CompuServe this past week from David, KE6WDL. He announces that he is both a ham (General Class) and a long-distance singlehanded sailor. David is in the early stages of planning a trip from Los Angeles to Panama, leaving this coming winter. Normally, he sails nonstop, but he may try to make a landfall at a small, uninhabited atoll -- Clipperton Island -- about 600 nm SW of Mexico. The sole purpose of the landfall would be to set up and operate for a day or two. David is looking for help on several questions such as, how to obtain license for FO-land, how to land on the island and what is needed for DXCC? If you can help, David can be reached by E-mail at "71046.1647@compuserve.com".

KC6, BELAU. The DXNS report that Tosy, JA6VZB, is planning an end of the year DXpedition, possibly December 28th to January 5th as KC6VW with emphasis on 160 meters for Europe and Eastern USA.

OLYMPIC STATION W4O. Jim, N4UCK, reports that the 1x1 callsign W4O has been issued as the OFFICIAL Olympic Commemorative Station operating in Atlanta. Jim is the trustee/holder of the callsign and it will be in use through the Olympics into August. Please direct QSL per the instructions of the operator on duty at time of contact. Inquires can be directed to N4UCK.

OH0, ALAND ISLAND. This favorite European island will once again become very active. The DXNS report Matti/OH3MHT, and Retu/OH3NJV, will be active July 22-26th, as OH0MHT and OH0NJV, with an emphasis on SSB, 80-10 meters. QSL to home calls. Meanwhile, Jorma/OH2KI, Seppo/OH1VR, Lasse/OH0RJ, Kari/OH3MT, Pete/OH3MEP (on RTTY) and possibly Dave/K8MN, will be active August 1-4th, CW/SSB and RTTY with activity on 160-6 meters. They will also make a TV show while there. Calls will be announced at a later date. QSL via OH1VR.

P5 UPDATE. Zoli, HA1AG, received the following message from Laci, HA0AW, (Sanyi's, HA7VK QSL Manager) on July 11th, were Sanyi, HA7VK, received the following letter from the Minister of PTT DPRK regarding his license application:

"Dear Mr. Sandor Csige, On July 5th, 1996 I received your kind letter. Your letter informed
me that you serve good purposes. However I'm required to inform to
you that I can't give you positive answer.

Yours sincerely:
Kim Hak Sob
Minister of PTT"
However, Sanyi continues to establish a very promising relationship with the DPRK, so the P5 story has not ended just yet. Laci has asked to tell all not to send any P5 QSL requests to him. In the last couple of days he received dozens of QSLs to the following slim: P51VK, P57VK, HM0DX, HM1DX, and P51HA.

SV1, CYTHERA ISLAND (Greece). Andreas/SV1BKN, Dimitris/SV1CIB and Vasilis/ SV1DPJ will be active from this Greek island (IOTA EU-113) from July 20-25th. LIBYA. Here is the latest on Toly's 5A QSL situation direct from W4BRE:

Here's the latest on 5A1A: (as of July 11, 1996)

As of July 11, 1996, everything is right-on-schedule for the QSLing of the July 1995 5A1A operation. Toly naturally has all the original copies of the paper logs, and after a HD crash after Dayton he's gotten all the Q's re-entered. A copy of the original paper logs and the computer disks have been sealed with the Ukrainian Customs Seal and were sent to me for N4AA, EXPRESS MAIL early morning July 11 for a 4 to 6 day delivery. (Four to Six day delivery)

Toly has all your cards sent long ago to the orig. OM and LZ mgrs., and will start answering these today, 7/11/96. He had been asked to wait for INDEXA material to insert since they were one of the three $2K "sponsors," (along with YAESU and NCDXF) However since he has not rcvd the material after 4 weeks INDEXA told him he could start responding to QSL requests without the inserts.

Immediately after Dayton Toly also said he could take direct requests to his personal address; Anatoly Kirilenko, P.O. Box 439/3, Kiev-151, 252151, Ukraine, with only a couple of bucks or equivalent IRCs for return postage. These, along with ones sent to the LZ & OM start being answered today.

For any "U.S. stations" who haven't QSLed, Carl Smith, N4AA of QRZ-DX will be able to fulfill your requests, requiring only an SASE. He has the cards now, and will have the paper logs and the computer disks in 6 or 7 days. While not necessary, it is O.K. to QSL to N4AA even tho. you sent another to one of the original mgrs, and it won't be frowned upon like "hogging ten insurance QSOs." In fact you may get your card more quickly through N4AA.

If any have been waiting to help reimburse Toly a small amount for some of the financial commitments he assumed in order to put this country on, (with his not knowing he'd have to eat his debts for ten months,) the "5A1A DXpedition" account is still open, and checks can be sent with your QSL requests to N4AA, or to K2ENT, or to me, W4BRE. Finally-Your 5A1A card.
