5A1A LOGS UPDATE (July 1995 Ukrainian operation). The following is a press release from Dan, W4BRE: "The 5A1A logs on disks for the July 1995 operation arrived Thursday, August 18th, followed by the PAPER logs this morning August 20th. These have been forwarded to N4AA to answer requests from U.S stations (35,000 plus Q's made quite a stack of PAPER). Any USA station who would like to get their 5A1A card virtually immediately, can QSL to N4AA, Call-Book address. While Toly is still having severe financial hardships because of this DXpedition, he certainly wants to thank the NCDXF, INDEXA, and Yaesu for their contributions of $2,000 each ("The Danish DX Group" kicked in $650 on August 24, 1995). Thanks to all the individuals who helped as they could with contributions of slightly over $1,050. Everything combined has enabled Toly to recover approx. one-third the amount he borrowed and must pay back. A year ago today he was in Tripoli burning-up the airways (personal note: Surely he had no idea that a year later he would still be struggling from it.) The account to try to help him is still open at: "5A1A DXpedition," 2410 Covemont Dr., Huntsville, AL 35801. Hope this update giving the accurate status on the LOGS, helps the situation. (Any questions can be directed to me at: whitsett@HiWAAY.net .......Many thanks to all & 73.... Dan-W4BRE"

5X, UGANDA. Gus, SM5DIC, will be active from Kampala as 5X1D until the end of October. Activity will be on CW/SSB and 80-6 meters. QSL via SM0BFJ.

5X4F QSL UPDATE (and next operation!). Paul, 5X4F, states all the direct QSLs have been answered and that approximately 1500 QSLs will be sent to the bureau sometime this week. He also says, "A big thank you to all who sent extra greenbacks to help defray mailing costs. Thank you too for all your patience. The rarity of 5X plus my extra activity proved too much for a busy young family with many community activities and a house remodeling project. Now that the QSLs are out, I'm looking to having more time to enjoy my grandkids. Also, a big thanks to the XYL who helped with the QSL chores the past several weeks. We hope to return to Uganda on the 5th of September. Reports from the NW Nile district are not too encouraging as there continues to be reports of rebel activity in the area. I am still hoping to take a battery operated amp along back with me, if we can come up with the $850 needed. The 80 feet of Rohn 25 tower has cleared customs. Plans are to erect it when we return and then hang the Battle Creek Trapper off of it".... ....73, Paul 5X4F

A35, TONGA. Paul Kidd, KK6H, reports he is "Tonga Bound!" Paul states, "Well, the time has finally come: I retired from the Fire Dept., I sold my house, I'm packing my bags, and I'm moving to Tonga on July 29th. I'll be there for at least 6 months, probably for a year, and perhaps longer. I'll know more after I've been there awhile. HI I will arrive in Tonga on July 31st, and I will be active as A35RK as soon as I can get some antennas up. I'm quite sure that I'll be on 40-10 meters, mostly CW and RTTY, but I may not be able to do anything on 80 meters for awhile. No 160 meters. PERIOD!" Paul will be taking some "side-trips" while living on A3-land: to Fiji for sure, signing 3D2RK; possibly to Rotuma, Vanuatu, South Cooks, Niue, and French Polynesia. No dates have been set, however details will be forthcoming. QSL A35RK via W7TSQ ONLY. NO A3 BURO CARDS! ADDED NOTE: Paul mentions that Craig Thompson, A35CT, is leaving Tonga FOR GOOD on August 6th, and with his departure, there will be NO FUNCTIONAL A3 QSL BUREAU. Craig was "The BURO" for the last 4 years, and Paul doesn't know who will replace him. Any future developments will be reported via Paul's QSL manager, W7TSQ.

AH4, MIDWAY ATOLL. Frank, AH0W/OH2LVG, has provided OPDX with the following details on the upcoming Midway operation which has been rescheduled now for August 18-25th, due to a slight delay in the modifications of the aircraft. The Midway Team consists of: UA3AB, WA7LNW, W2UE and AH0W, all members of the Central Arizona DX Association. QSL route is KE7LZ. Franks states, "According to documents recently published regarding Midway, it has been over 100 years since there were any public visitors on Midway. This DXpedition team will be among a small group of such visitors to be the first to land on Midway in so many years. The DXpedition also marks the turning over of control of Midway to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, with Midway officially now called, "Midway Atoll Wildlife Refuge." Our team will be using beam antennas (and others) which will be donated after the DXpedition to the permanent custody of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Svc to be used exclusively by future DXpedition and Contest groups wishing to visit Midway to operate. As a part of this inauguration of Midway for DXing purposes is the formation of the Midway DX Association."

CH3Y, Special Event Station (Canada). The Lake Simcoe Repeater Association will operate CH3Y on September 21st, from 1200-2100z to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the formation of York Regional Police. Suggested frequencies: SSB - 7240, 14240 and 21345 kHz; CW - 7040, 14040 and 21040 kHz; VHF - 146.580 MHz. For a QSL, send direct (w/ SASE or SAE and 1 IRC) to CH3Y, c/o M. Kassay, 90 Herrell Avenue, Barrie, ON L4N 6T9, CANADA or via the bureau to VE3MKX. For a certificate, send direct with 9 x 12 SASE (or SAE and 2 IRC).

CORRECTION AND UPDATE. Last week's bulletin (OPDX.262) we stated that a group would be active from Aland Island (OH0). WRONG! The group is going to be on Market Reef OJ0, not on OH0. Activity will be from August 1-4th, with the following operators: OH1VR, OH0RJ, OH2KI, OH2BDP, OH3MEP and OH6PJ (To be confirmd). Operators will sign OJ0/homecall. QSL via homecalls. They will be on 160-10 meters with two stations. Antennas include beams, R5, and lowband wires. Check the usual DX frequencies on CW/SSB. They will also be on 50 MHz with a 100w amp and a 3-element yagi. OH3MEP is the chief RTTY specialist and will be active mainly on 14084 kHz (Other bands as propagation and demands allow).

F5OGL CORRECT ADDRESS. Didier is QSL Manager for S92AA, 6W1GL, TR8GL and TR0D and his correct address is : Didier Senmartin, BP 1307, F-53013 Laval, Cedex, France

GM, ORKNEY ISLANDS (Scotland). Micha, DL6MHW, will be active as GM/DL6MHW during the upcoming IOTA Contest as a Single Op entry. The location of this Scottish island is near Stromness (Mainland). This island offers an excellent path to North America and good path to Britain and Europe. During the day time Micha will try to call the last 3 minutes of every hour on 28455 kHz to avoid the missing of any 10 meters opening and to help obtaining the difficult 10 meter multiplier (EU-009). Operations will only be on SSB using the frequencies 28455, 21255, 14155, 7055 and 3755 (+/- QRM) kHz. There are plans to be active before and after the contest on the WARC bands along with some CW operations. Every contact in the contest will be confirmed automatically via bureau. If you need a direct QSL please send your SASE via DL3ABL, Andrea Diekmann, Bruno-Taut-Ring 56, 39130 Magdeburg, Germany. Micha mentions, Clive, GM3POI, will also be active from this location (which is also a very rare WAB-Square, HY21). His plans are to be active during the IOTA-Contest but on CW.
