1997 PACIFIC NORTHWEST DX CONVENTION. The PNW DX Convention moves yearly between, Washington, Oregon & British Columbia. This year it will be held at Richmond, B.C. on July 25, 26 and 27th. 5Z, KENYA. The "DX News Sheet" reports Christine, a YL operator, is curently active from Kiambu as 5Z4LL and is often found around 1500z on 18145 kHz. QSL to Box 14425, Nairobi, Kenya.

9H, MALTA. The 10th DXpedition to Malta organized by the V.R.Z.A. (Dutch Society of AmateurRadio) will take place from Saturday, 21st June up to Saturday, 5th July. There will be fourteen hams in Sliema, QTH-locator JM75FV, using their own 9H3-callsign. They will activate IOTA EU-023 on the HF-bands, 80-10 meters as well as 6 meters, CW and SSB. There will be four complete stations available. (Last minute update received before going to print: "To commemorate this 10th VRZA DXpedtion to Malta a special clubstation callsign is been issued: 9H0VRZ.") 9M8, EAST MALAYSIA. Arie, PA3FWG, will be active during the month of July for about a month as 9M8ZZ. His activity will include RTTY. No other details were given.

CY9, ST. PAUL ISLAND (Just an early reminder!). Mike, VE9AA, wants OPDX to remind its readers that CY9AA will be active June 26-July 3rd. Operations will be on 160-2 meters with one station on 6 meters FULL TIME on 50.101MHz. CY9AA operators will be: VE1PZ/Doug, K7BV/Dennis and VE9AA/Mike. Also, check out the Web site "http://www.uksmg.org/cy9.htm" to read all about their upcoming trip to St. Paul Island. The LATEST UPDATE, dated June 10th, will be sent to all OPDX InterNet Subscribers as an additional bulletin.

FK, NEW CALEDONIA. FK8HC, although weak, has been heard during East Coast mornings (around 1000z) on 3799 kHz. Also, VKs and Zls stations were on awaiting the VK0 group in Maquirie Island to come on the air at about 1200z.

IOTA NEWS......

JW, SVALBARD. Leif, JW2PA, will be active from July 18-26th on all bands from 10 to 80 meters. Activity will be on CW and SSB. QSL to home call LA2PA direct via callbook address or via bureau.

MIDDLE EAST GROUP ACTIVE. Naser/A61AN, and Murtada/9K2MU, are on almost daily on 14240 kHz. Both have S9+ signals into the East Coast. They have been assisting other Middle East/Arabic stations (TA, SU, 7X, A7.... all heard) in working DX. They come on about 2200z until the band dies or they get too sleepy.

VK0, MACQUARIE ISLAND. "The DX News Letter" reports Tom, VK0TS, has a sked with Jim, VK9NS, on 14222 kHz each Saturday and Sunday at 0345z.

ZK2, NIUE. Alan, VK4AAR, reports to OPDX that he is the QSL Manager for Paul/ZK2PJ and Janice/ZK2JJ who will be on Niue Island for the next 2 years. Paul is currently preparing his antenna system and will have a Quad antenna up soon. ADDED NOTE: Alan mentions he is also the QSL Manager for YJ8AA and VK8MI (March 1996 operation on Melville Is), but PLEASE NOTE that Paul is good direct ONLY via the 1995, 1996 and 1997 CBA (callbook address) ***ONLY*** Here's the address for those without the right call book: VK4AAR, Alan Roocroft, Post Office, Dalveen QLD 4374, Australia.
