4F, PHILIPPINES. Look for Arie, PA3FWG, to be active from January 1-20th, as 4F1UFT. His frequencies and modes activites are unknown at this time. QSL via home call.

9N, NEPAL (Plenty of activity from here!).

C5, THE GAMBIA. The "DX News Sheet" reports that Alan, G0SAH, will be active from here until January 9th as C56/G0SAH. He will be using a FT-800AT into a HF6 vertical. Alan may also activate one of the coastal islands (IOTA AF-060). QSL via home call.

L20XSI WRAPUP AND GACW NEWS. Alberto, LU1DZ, GACW Coordinator, provides OPDX with the following: "GRUPO ARGENTINO DE CW NEWS". The GACW reports the five day operation of L20XSI, the GACW 20th Anniversary station, which was active from Staten Island (SA-049) in the Tierra del Fuego Province (counts for DXCC as Argentina) made 5303 QSOs (4518 CW and 785 SSB). The report states QSLs should be ready in about 30 days, possibly a little more. The report also states that Hector/LU6UO and Ernie/LU4AXV are now active from Deception Island as LU1ZC. They arrived on the island on Tuesday, December 16th, after an airplane and icebreaker trip to the island. This island counts as South Shetlands, and the two operators will be active until the end of February. LU1ZC has been very active on CW on 40/20/15 meters and the WARC bands. QSL to LU6EF or the perferred address: GACW, Box 9, 1875 Wilde, Buenos Aires, ARGENTINA.

NEW OFFICIALS. The 1998 Officers for Western Washington DX Club have been announced. They are: President - W7TSQ, Bob Preston; Vice President - K7BTW, Dick Swanson; Secrectary - WA7BAY, Mike Schone; and Treasurer - N7LSL, Marina Zuettel. The Board of Directors are: W7JEN, Duncan Carman; K7ST, Adam Kerner (exAA7FT); N7TT, John Gohndrone; W7VV, Roger Huntley (ex N7IRR); W7QN, Joe Gregory and N6MZ, Mike Mraz.

PJ9, CURACAO. The "DX News Letter" reports that John, W1BIH, will be active as PJ9JT on all bands between January 10th and March 31st. QSL via W1AX.

QSL INFO AND NEWS........

RSGB "100 YEARS OF AMATEUR RADIO AWARD". Neville Cheadle, G3NUG, Chairman of the RSGB HF Committee, reports to OPDX that the RSGB has recently announced an award to celebrate 100 years of amateur radio in 1998. The new HF award will be issued for making 100 points during the course of 1998. The award is available to listeners on a `heard' basis. All claims must include a log extract certified by two licensed amateurs or an RSGB affiliated club official and a summary sheet of the points claimed per contact listed by callsign. The press release on the details of this award will be provided to OPDX InterNet Subscribers as an additional bulletin.

RTTY FROM THE ANTARCTICA. Raul, CX7BY, reports his friends Paul, EM1HO, and Roman, VP8CTR, will be active on all the bands in the next ARRL RTTY Roundup January 3-4th from Galindez Island (Antarctica).

SV/A, MT. ATHOS (Possible new operator?). "The Daily DX" reports that Dimitris, SV2YC, works for the bank of Thessalonique in Northern Greece which may be opening a branch in Mount Athos in March, 1998. If he does get assigned to that location, he will try to obtain a license to operate.

T31, CENTRAL KIRIBATI. Norbert, DF6FK, will be active until January 10th as T31BB from Canton Island. His plan of operations in unknown. QSL via home call.

XW, LAOS. Zorro, JH1AJT, has been extended a special invitation to attend the 30th anniversary celebration of Khao Sanpathet Lao (KPL), the Lao News Agency, to take place in early January, 1998. In conjunction with the event, the Special Anniversary Commission has also extended permission for an international team of radio operators to conduct a DXpedition operation from Vientiane, Lao, January 5-13th. The team of operators will include Zorro/JH1AJT - teamleader, Yuki/XW1A, Frank/ AH0W/OH2LVG, Shin/JA0DAI, Toshio/JP1IOF, John/SM0DJZ and Erik/SM0AGD. The DXpedition will be an all-band, all-mode, multi-station effort with special emphasis on low bands and CW. Operations will also include an effort on 6 meters and RTTY. Special event callsigns for the DXpedition will be XW30 for CW and XW30A for SSB, RTTY and FM. PLEASE NOTE: The callsigns are XW3-zero and XW3-zero-A. The QSL Manager will be SM0AGD: Erik Sjolund, Vestag.27, S-19556 Marsta, Sweden. Their operating frequencies will be announced at a later date. ZK3, TOKELAU. "The Daily DX" states Peter, ZK3PM, who works for the New Zealand government, will be active from Fakaofu Island for the next 2 years. Peter states he is not a DXer and does not have any QSLs cards. It is suggested that if you work him and want to QSL, you may want to send an index card or a generic QSL with all the information on it so he can sign it. The only QSN OPDX could find on him is that he was reported on December 23rd at 0625z on 14260 kHz. QSL via Peter McQuarrie, Fakaofu Island, Tokelau, South Pacific via Apia Samoa.
