3C0, ANNOBON/PAGALU ISLANDS. Several sources report that a multi-national team of 4-6 operators plan to activate this one sometime during the first week of March. Operations will be on CW, SSB and RTTY. Activity will be on all bands, with an emphasis on 40, 80 and 160 meters.
5N, NIGERIA. Bogdan, 5N3CPR (ex 5N3/SP5XAR), has been active on several bands, especially on 17 and 30 meters. Check 10109 kHz between 0030 and 0130z and 18081 kHz around 1715z. Also, check 7002 around 0515z. QSL via SP5CPR. He prefers bureau QSLing.
8Q7AA DXPEDITION WRAPUP. OPDX InterNet Subscribers will receive an additional bulletin containing the press release by Warren, K7WX, titled "8Q7AA - Final Comments/Stats". Meanwhile, the Central Arizona DX Association 8Q7AA group is now back home after logging more than 17000 QSOs (8355 CW, 8450 SSB and 200 RTTY). The group is pleased to report that their main goal, to make meaningful presence on the low bands, was reach by logging 6755 QSOs on 160, 80 and 40 meters. They also report that some stations, such as W1NG, worked them on 10 bands and modes! The only disaster was one of the FT-1000MP suffered a cracked PC board during transit which cause them to have only three functional stations during five of the nine days of operations. Unbelievably, KP4RF was able to meticulously jumper all the broken PC board traces to restore an otherwise DOA radio to perfect working order! They will begin mailing QSLs in several weeks. C6, BAHAMAS. Look for Ray, AA6EW to be active as AA6EW/C6A from Great Abaco (IOTA NA-80) from March 1-14th. Activity will included the ARRL DX Phone Contest. Look for him on 80/75 meters on CW/SSB between 1130 and 1230z. QSL homecall.
C9, MOZAMBIQUE. Franco, I4LCK, reports to OPDX that he will arrive in Maputo on February 7th (last Saturday). The following day or Monday the 9th, he plans a 1 or 2 days operation from Inhaca (IOTA AF-066). From Inhaca, Franco will move on to Beira. There he will look for a boat to travel to, and activate Chiloane Island (A new IOTA, AF-???) located in the Sofala Group. Operation may take place on February 14, 15 or 16th (He states, "Nothing is definitely confirmed because in that area the navigation is strongly influenced by the weather, in particular by the tides!). Franco mentions that he has NO idea if the stay or activity on the small island will last a few/several hours or days. For up-to-date info, listen to 14260 and 21260 kHz. His callsign will be C91LCK/C93. QSL via I4LCK.
FO0, FRENCH POLYNESIA. FO0BUS will be active starting February 9th through at least the 14th from a few different island groups. Activity will be mostly CW on 40, 20 and 15 meters, from Tahiti, Moorea, Rangitoa, Huahine, and Bora-Bora. If time permits, the Tuamutu group may be activated also. QSL via W6MD.
FT5W, CROZET ISLANDS. Jean Paul, F5BU, is now active as FT5WG and was announced earlier that he would be there until March 18th. Activity will be mainly SSB. Look for him on 20 meters (around 14183 or 14278 kHz) between 1330 and 1730z. QSL to F6APU, Andre Jungbluth, 4 rue des Tulipes, 67380 Lingolsheim, France.
JT, MONGOLIA. A group of Hungarians, members of the Hungarian Pannon DX Club, will operate from Ulan Bator, Mongolia in May. The team includes HA0HW, HA4GDO, HA6NL, HA7SK and HA7VK. It is planned to keep 2-3 stations simultaneously on the air 24 hours a day to maximize band openings. All HF bands will be activated on SSB, CW, RTTY and Satellites. The callsign and QSL Manager will be announced at a later date. The DXpedition is supported by the Hungarian Ambassador in Mongolia, the Hungarian Radioamateur Society and the "Radiotechnika" magazine. The DXpedition team includes experienced DX operators. The members of the expedition have already operated from Cambodia (XU0HW, XU95HA, XU7VK), Iraq (YI9SK, YI9VK) Liechenstein (HB0/HA0HW/p, HB0/HA4GDO/p, HB0/HA6NL/p etc), ITU Geneva (4U0ITU) and numerous Greek islands including SV5, SV8, SV9. LU1ZC UPDATE. The latest QSO count of the LU1ZC station celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Argentine Antartic base named Destacamento Naval Decepcion (located in the South Shetland Group) is 24900. Operators Hector and Ernie will be staying a little longer than expected. Their activity will continue now until March 15th. Their extented time is due to a delay in the Argentine ice breaker "Almirante Irizar". Please send your QSLs to the GACW with a SAE and 2/3 IRCs (DO NOT send money). PJ9, NETHERLANDS ANTILLES. Look for Jack, W1WEF, and John, W1BIH, to be active as PJ9C during the ARRL CW Contest as a Multi/Single. Outside the contest, John will sign PJ9JT and Jack as PJ9/W1WEF. S2, BANGLADESH. Ray, G3WZ, currently here as S21YR, will be active until February 20th. Listen for him on 14028 kHz CW around 1315z. QSL via homecall: Ray Baldwin, 11 Meadow Court, Whiteparish, Salisbury, Wilts, SP5 2SE, United Kingdom.
TI, COSTA RICA. Tom, K6CT, will be active during the ARRL CW DX Contest using the callsign TI5N. Operations will be from the station of Carlos, TI5KD. QSL cards to TI5KD.
V7, MARSHALL ISLANDS. "The 59(9) DXReport" states Tim, N2PC, active as V73AT, will be active on 160 meters soon from the club station. Meanwhile, OPDX has found that Tim can sometimes be heard on 15 meters (around 21285 kHz) between 2030 and 2200z. QSL via K2CL. Also, look for V73GT who has been active on 160 meters (1826 kHz) between 1230 and 1300z.
XE, MEXICO. Doug/N6RT, Daniel/AA6DP and Richard/N6PE will be active from XE2EBE for the ARRL CW and SSB Contests. QSL via AA6DP. Also, look for Earl/N5TU, Charles/N5RP, Charles/KZ5MM, Madison/W5MJ and XE2KB of the Texas DX Society to be active as XA5T in the ARRL DX CW Contest.
YK, SYRIA. The "DX News Sheet" reports that Omar, YK1AO, hopes to be active on 160 meters soon with 1500 watts and a Gladiator TL160M top loaded vertical with elevated radials (supplied by W4DR) four stories high. Meanwhile, W4DR is seeking donations towards the antenna (the cost was 500 green stamps).
ZK1, SOUTH COOK ISLAND. The "Island/DX News" reports that OK1TN, OK1KT and OK1VD will be active from Aitutaki, February 24th through March 4th. They plan to concentrate on the lower bands. QSL via OKDX Foundation.
ZK2, NIUE. Albert, HB9BCK, will be here from April 2-16th as ZK2CK. Activity will be on 80-10 meters including the WARC bands. Suggested frequencies are:
ZX0/ZZ0, FRANCES ISLAND (Brazil). Activity from here will be from February 16-24th. The island has the following designations: IOTA SA-067, DIB-068 and DFB ES-07. Operations will be near the city of Itapemirim, which is the southern part of Espirito Santo state. Operations will be on CW/SSB on all bands, including the WARC bands, depending on propagation. Look for the following special callsigns and operators: ZX0Z (Vieira/PY1LVF), ZZ0W (Pete/PY1NEW), ZZ0Z (Lima/PY1NEZ) and possibly other PP1 operators. QSL via home calls or PY1-QSL Bureau.
