7Q, MALAWI. Just a reminder that Alan, N5PA, will be in Malawi by the time you read this and will be active as 7Q7PA until July 13th. He will operate during the IARU DX Contest. QSL via N5PA.

8Q, MALDIVES. Jacques, F6BEE, will enter the IARU Contest (July 10/11th) as a Single/All CW category as 8Q7TV from North Male Atoll in the Republic of Maldives. Activity will be on 40-10 meters using an ICOM 706 Mk2 (100 W out) and a multi band vertical (R-7000) on the beach. Outside the contest operations will be on all bands 40-10 meters on CW/SSB between July 10-16th. QSL to home call F6BEE. Meanwhile, the "DX News Sheet" reports that Steve, G3VMW, will be active September/October as 8Q7SW. QSL via home call.

C2, NAURU. The "DX News Letter" reports that Jack, VK2GJH, is active as C21JH on 80-6 meters until July 8th. From QSN reports, look for him on 20 meters SSB between 1130 and 1200z. Also, check 17 meters around 1300z. Jack will return to the island again July 20-27th, after his T30 operation (See T30 below). C6, BAHAMAS. Steve, N4JQQ, is active again as C6AFP from Treasure Cay until July 17th. His beacon can be heard on 6 meters (50062.5 kHz). QSL via N4JQQ.

C6, GREAT INAGUA ISLAND (First time aired!). Delano, C6AFV, will be going to the island of South Bahamas July 8-12th. This is the first time this island will be activated. His callsign will be C6GI. QSL via C6AFV DIRECT ONLY. Activity will be on CW/SSB.

CE0, EASTER ISLANDS. Look for Hal, JL6MSN, to be active as CE0Y/JL6MSN July 7-8th, before he heads to French Polynesia (See FO below). Activity will be mainly on SSB on 15/20 meters. QSL via JL6MSN, Haruo Araki, 4-4-14-402 Nishihonmachi, Yahatahigashi Kitakyushu, 805-0061 Japan.

ES0, KIHNU ISLAND (KO18XC). The Viimsi RC (ES2WX) plans a massive operation to this Estonian island (IOTA EU-034) July 19-27th. Their main interest is the Estonian VUSHF Open Field Day July 24-25th. During the contest they will use the new contest callsign ES0X. Before and after the contest they will be using the callsign ES2WX/0 and their own personal callsign/0. The team members are: ES2RJ/0, ES2NA/0, ES2QH/0, ES1MW/0 and possibly others. Activity will be on HF (including 20m VHF-net), 50 MHz, 144 MHz, 432 MHz and 1296 MHz. One of the working position is located at the top of the southern lighthouse of Kihnu about 30m ASL. The other two working positions will be located inside of the tent on the ground. FO, FRENCH POLYNESIA. Hal, JL6MSN, will be active as FO0MSN after his Easter Island operation between July 9-18th. Activity should be the same as his CE0 operation QSL via JL6MSN.

HH2, HAITI. Bill, W4WX, will be operating from Haiti as HH2/W4WX July 13-19th. He will be on 10-20 Meters concentrating on RTTY. QSL to home callsign.

IOTA NEWS...........

OH0, ALAND ISLANDS. Ari, OH1EH, reports to OPDX that Juha, OH1JT, will be active as OH0Z July 10-11th in the IARU Championship, CW only. QSL via OH1EH, Ari Korhonen, Kreetalank. 9 as 1, FIN-29200 Harjavalta, Finland.

OL9, CZECH REPUBLIC. Look for OL9HQ (HQ station of Czech Radio Club/CRC) in the IARU HF World Championship (July 10-11th) with 12 stations on all HF bands CW/SSB. QSL via OK1MD, Mlados Doucha, Kodanska 87, CZ-10100 Praha 10, Czech Republic.

QSL INFO AND NEWS.....

R1MVA, MALYJ VYSOTSKIJ (DXPEDITION). By the time you read this the joint Finnish/Russian team of 25 operators will be active as R1MVA from here until July 15th. Operations will be on all bands from HF to UHF. The group will be active in the IARU Contest, but will be using a special shortened callsign R1MV. They will operate on all modes (CW/SSB/RTTY, MS, EME, Tropo) with nine radios with amplifiers and an assortment of yagis, verticals and wires. For more details, please refer to OPDX.413 and OPDX.414. SPECIAL EVENT. Activity still continues by SN0APT to commemorate 750 years of Polish pharmacies on 160-10m SSB/CW/RTTY. Please refer to OPDX.407. This station has been active since the 1st of May. Next week (July 5-12th) a special field day activation will be set up in Klementowice (KO01BJ), southeast Poland. The station will end its special activity later this month from Lublin (KO11GG) with the operation ending on July 31st. QSLs available via bureau via special callsign or SP8YCB club. SPECIAL EVENT. The "1999 Museum Ship Special Event" will take place from 1330z, July 17th through 2000z, July 18th. They currently have 37 museum ships which will be activated for the weekend. The USS Salem Radio Club (K1USN) is sponsoring this event. Certificates are available for working five different vessels during the weekend. W1QWT is the QSL Manager for K1USN. He is also the Certificate Manager. Send a business size SASE for the QSL; 9 X 12 SASE for the Certificate. The following are suggested operating frequencies for ships operating during the event:

SV5, DODECANESE. Look for Dieter/DL9UDS and Andreas/DL9USA to be active from Kos Island as J45K July 28th-August 11th. There is some 6 meter activity planned.

T30. WESTERN KIRIBATI. Jack, VK2GJH, will be active here after his C21 operation (See above, C2) signing T30JH from Tarawa (OC-017) from July 8-20th. Activity will be on 80-6 meters. QSL direct only via VK2GJH.

USI ALERT AND NEWS........

VP9, BERMUDA. Hank, K2HJB, will be active from here (IOTA NA-005) as K2HJB/VP9 from July 26-30th. Operations are planned for 20 meters SSB and possibly 6 meters FM only. QSL to home call or KB2PFP.

ZD8, ASCENSION ISLAND (Update). Paul Hutley, KF4OOX, active as ZD8V informs OPDX that he could not operate during "Field Day" due to being sick from having a tooth pulled the day before. OPDX wishes him a speedy recovery. Paul states his antenna (A GAP Titan DX) is still sick and he hoped to have it down during the past week for repair. He mentions that he uses the following setup: Icom 756 Transceiver into a AL-80B Amertron 1K amp into a MFJ versa tuner V and into a GAP Titan DX multi-band vertical antenna. Paul also uses the LOG-EQF program on a notebook computer with QRZ CDRom in it.

ZS, SOUTH AFRICA. NODXA member Edwin, ZS5BBO, will be operating in IARU HF World Championships contest as ZS5T from the beautiful port city of Durban on the east coast of South Africa. He will be using his Kenwood TS450SAT, Linear amp TL922 from Kenwood and 5 element TET HB35T for 10m, 15m and 20m at 130 foot in the sky. He will only have a Cushcraft R7 for 40m. Edwin requests to, "Please join the fun and give some points in this great contest. Last year (1998) I was 10th in Africa operating as ZS5BBO, hopefully I can improve this year.
