VK0MM -"INPUT REQUESTED". Alan, VK0MM, informs OPDX and others that he is looking for a way for "maximizing the number of stations needing Macquarie Island as a new country, irrespective of band or mode." He reports that his logging software indicates that the same callsigns are starting to crop up time and time again on different bands and different modes. These, he states, are usually the "59++" variety and the average guy with 100w and a vertical has much less of a chance of breaking through, especially on SSB. There are many who have worked VK0MM four or five times in different combinations of band/mode/callsign. The bottom line is that as a single operator, Alam can only work one band and mode at a time. The question he poses to the greater amateur radio population out there is: "What is more equitable, fairer all round, efficient?"

1,000 QSOs with 1,000 different stations, each of whom is happy having worked a new country or 1,000 QS0s with maybe 300 to 500 stations, each of whom works VK0MM in one or more different combinations of bands and modes ??

Any comments, opinions, two-cents worth etc etc would be welcome. Alan will be off the ANARE station until around the end of the month working at the other end of the island and will read any comments on his return to base. The last supply ship of the year will be arriving fairly soon. This supply ship will bring Alan a new iambic keyer and a linear to use as he is settling in for the winter. Alan states, "I'd like to get an operating strategy in place by then and will base it on the wishes of the majority." Alan's (VK0MM) E-mail address is: vk0mm@yahoo.com

If you are interested in going to Russia, see details at: http://w4gbu.home.mindspring.com Then, click on the "Trip to Russia" line.
