According to their Web page, pile-ups are awesome, and they have uploaded some 10400 QSOs on Friday to their Web page. Their main supply of power is unstable, so please forgive them if they disappear on the air. The team was participating in the SP-DX Contest this past weekend. For more details, please refer to OPDX.650 and OPDX.655, or visit the UK Malawi DXpedition Web page at: http://www.malawi.digital-crocus.com QSL via G3LQP direct (Roger Brown, 262 Fir Tree Road, Epsom KT17 3NL, England) or via the bureau.

ALL-AUSTRIAN-CONTEST (AOEC). Tom, DL8AAM, informs OPDX that once again the Austrian Telecommunications Authority gave a special permit for non-amateur radio stations from the public service (military, police, customs, red cross, NGO, State Department etc.) to take part in the "domestic" All-Austrian-Contest (AOEC) on May 1st (held each year on May 1st) at 0500-0800 and 1400-1700 UTC. This interservice-part of this contest is to train operators from all radio services to interact in case of an emergency situation and to understand the shortwave conDX. The interservice part takes place on 80 and 30 meters, as both bands are allocated to the fixed service. Also, simplex QSOs are possible, not like the crossband operations of the Armed Forces Radio Day of the U.S. (May 8-9th). The official rules of this contest can be found on the Web page of the National Austrian HAM Society, the OeVSV, at: http://www.oevsv.at (under Contest)

Callsigns / Prefixes are:

  OEC - State Department
  OEY - Military (e.g. OEY632)
  OEH - Red Cross, etc. (e.g. OEH6101)
  OEP - Police (e.g. OEP213)
  OEN - Customs (e.g. OEN6000)

For some examples of QSLs (received via the OE bureau) and more informations about this annual event, please check the Web page at: http://people.freenet.de/troesne/index.html (->Amateur Radio -> Interservice) PLEASE NOTE! (per Tom, DL8AAM)

  1. As this an emergency communication exercise; the operations on SSB on 30m are OK with the IARU rules!! Please do not QRM them as in the last years. Tom states that it seems that many operators do not know the IARU-rules or do not understand what happens when they listen to a SSB-Contest on 30m!
  2. This is a domestic contest, which means all no-OE operators can only act as SWLs, but even then a good chance to log and QSL some really interesting callsigns. Also, this contest may be an idea for other countries to organize such an event??

AP, PAKISTAN. Bob, AP2JZB, was heard this past weekend on 12 and 17 meters SSB. Watch 24955 kHz after 0930z and around 18110 kHz after 1445z. QSL via direct.
