135TH HPM BIRTHDAY ANNIVERSARY (REMINDER!). You have just under a week to go for this celebration. Some stations believe this is a contest and are confused what the /135 is. No, it is not a contest. Many stations are on the air to help celebrate the 135th birthday anniversary of the League's co-founder and first president Hiram Percy Maxim, W1AW, who was born September 2, 1869. Look for ARRL Life members and League's elected and appointed volunteers and officials to append /135 to their callsigns. The HPM/135 celebration concludes at 2400z on Sunday, September 12th. To find out if you are eligible to sign /135, please see September's QST (page 40) or visit the following Web page for details at: http://www.arrl.org/qst/2004/09/field-positions-135.html A certificate is available by working at least 25 HPM/135 stations and submitting a log extract including date, time, band, callsign worked and exchange for each /135 contact. This certificate is endorsable in increments of 25 contacts up to a maximum of 100. Details are also available on the above mentioned Web site and QST.

He will try to concentrate on WARC bands and 10m FM. If somebody wants to make a sked, send an E-mail to: zik@contesting.info Also, there is some posibility to be active from some Croatian Islands. For those who already sent QSL card direct for his July activities, please wait until QSL cards come from printer. He will be active as C91Z mostly on SSB, but also some CW and RTTY. Also, his XYL, Magda, will be active as C91Y. She will be active mostly on phone when time permits. ADDED NOTE: Andrea states that for the CQ WW CW Contest, look for Chuck/W4GMY and Joe/AA4NN to be in C9.

DXCC NEWS (Annual Deadline Comes To An End!). Bill Moore, NC1L, ARRL DXCC Manager, informs OPDX of the following: "DXCC Annual List Deadline Change: Beginning in September 2004, there will be no deadline for the DXCC Annual List. We have been working toward this end for several years.

In previous years, September 30 was the cutoff point for compiling the entity totals for the DXCC Annual List published in the DXCC Yearbook. Over the years, DXCC participants tended to collect cards and submit them once a year, in September, to ensure the highest possible total for the listing. A major downside of the deadline is that we receive over 25% of our annual credit submissions during the month of the deadline. This in turn creates a huge increase in workload and a lengthy processing time.

Going forward, the lists of DXCC standings previously published in the DXCC Yearbook will be replaced by complete lists on the ARRL Web site. The new Web-based lists should be ready and on-line early in the first quarter of 2005, when the listings in the DXCC Yearbook would normally have been published. After initial publication, the new lists published on the Web will be updated regularly, perhaps weekly or even daily. They will also include the standings of all DXCC members, not just those who made a submission in the previous year (as has been the practice with the printed Yearbook due to space limitations).

A smaller version of the Yearbook will be published containing highlights of the standings, along with other features, as in the past."

EA6, BALEARIC ISLANDS. Christian, DL6KAC, will be going to EA6 again starting September 6th through probably September 28th. Activity will be from Mallorca Island (IOTA: EU-004, DIE: E-021) and will be on 40-10 meters, mainly on SSB, and maybe some digimode. Antennas will be dipoles with 350 watts of power. This will be a holiday style operation! QSL via the DARC Bureau or direct (QRZ.com).

GM, SCOTLAND. Andre, GM3VLB, will be active from Skye (EU-008) and possibly several other islands in the Inner Hebrides during the next week and a half. Depending on the weather, look for him to activate the following 8 islands: S. Rona (DI27), Scalpay (CN18), Longay (CN19), Staffin (DI28), Flodigarry (DI29), Wiay (CN21, Soay (CN16) and Crowlin (CN20). QSL direct only via his home callsign. KH7K, KURE ATOLL. It has been announced that the DXpedition to Kure Atoll by the Pacific DX Group, which was planned for mid to late October, has been postponed due to "transportation problems." The PDXG feels that the next possible opportunity for an operation to Kure will be late winter or early spring 2005.
